Description:
Brighamia insignis, commonly known Hawaii palm is a endangered species of Hawaiian lobe lipid in the bellflower family. It is native to the islands of KauaʻI and Niʻihau. This short-lived perennial species is a member of a unique endemic Hawaiian genus with only one other species.
The plant blooms in September through November. It has clusters of fragrant yellow flowers in groups of three to eight in the leaf axils.
Another name for the beautiful Hawaiian Palm is “cabbage on a stick”, due to its shiny green leaves and the long trunk. Don’t be worried if a few leaves in the bottom turns yellow occasionally and fall down. New leaves will always grow up from the top of the plant.
Care:
- Water only once/twice a week at most, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
- Give the plant a bright, sheltered position in the house.
Height: approximately 40 cm
