Maranta is a genus of flowering plants in the family Marantaceae, native to tropical Central and South America and the West Indies. Maranta was named for Bartolomeo Maranta, an Italian physician and botanist of the sixteenth century. About 40-50 species are currently recognized.
With the right type of care, maranta grows quickly. It can be either grown as a hanging plant or as a climbing plant.
Care: As a tropical plant, maranta likes to be watered relatively often, and try not to let the soil be dried out. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
