Botanically known as Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek' Variegata, this tropical plant belongs to the Araceae family and originates from the Philippines. It is particularly recognised for its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves with a soft, velvety texture and striking white or cream-coloured variegation. Each leaf displays a unique pattern, making every plant one of a kind. The contrasting white veins and irregular patches of variegation create a beautiful effect against the deep green foliage. Like other Alocasias, it thrives in warm, humid conditions with bright, indirect light and a well-draining growing medium.

Care

Light

Place your Alocasia Frydek Variegata in a bright location with plenty of indirect natural light. Sufficient light is particularly important for maintaining its beautiful variegation, as insufficient light may affect the appearance of its foliage. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the delicate leaves. A spot near an east- or north-facing window is often suitable.

Water

Water your Alocasia Frydek Variegata when the top layer of soil has started to dry out. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged, as excess moisture can lead to root rot. Allow excess water to drain freely and avoid leaving the plant standing in water. During the cooler months, reduce watering as the plant's growth naturally slows down.

Temperature

The Alocasia Frydek Variegata prefers warm conditions, ideally between 18 and 27°C. Protect it from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes, and avoid temperatures below 15°C. Higher humidity levels are beneficial and help maintain healthy, attractive foliage. Use a well-draining, airy potting mix to support healthy root development.
