This exotic beauty immediately catches the eye with its large, heart-shaped leaves and luxurious, velvety texture. The deep green leaves are adorned with striking golden-green veins that create a beautiful contrast against the dark leaf surface. As the plant matures and receives the right care, its leaves can grow to impressive sizes.
Originally native to the rainforests of Colombia, the Philodendron Melanochrysum naturally grows as a climbing plant. With the support of a moss pole or trellis, the plant can develop its natural growth habit and produce larger leaves.
Height: 50-55 cm.
Care
Water
The Philodendron Melanochrysum prefers slightly moist soil but does not tolerate waterlogged roots. Water the plant when the top layer of the potting soil has slightly dried out. During the growing season, from spring through autumn, the plant generally requires more water than during the winter months. Always use a well-draining pot and an airy, well-draining potting mix to help prevent root rot.
Sunlight
This Philodendron thrives in a spot with plenty of bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can damage its sensitive leaves and cause brown spots. If the plant does not receive enough light, growth will slow down and new leaves will remain smaller.
Temperature
As a tropical plant, the Melanochrysum feels most comfortable at temperatures between 18 and 28°C. Avoid drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
