The Pachira Aquatica, also known as the Money Tree, is a beautiful tropical houseplant with a distinctive braided trunk and lush, glossy green leaves. With its fresh, tropical look and relatively easy care, it is a great plant for both beginners and experienced plant lovers.
Origin of the Pachira Aquatica
The Pachira Aquatica is native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, where it naturally grows in warm and humid environments. In its natural habitat, the plant can grow into a large tree and is often found near rivers and other moist areas. This tropical origin explains its preference for warmth, bright light and a consistent watering routine.
Water
Keep the potting soil slightly moist, but avoid allowing the roots to remain in water for extended periods. Allow the top layer of the soil to dry out slightly before watering again. The Pachira Aquatica generally needs more water during the growing season and less during autumn and winter.
Light
The Pachira Aquatica prefers a bright spot with plenty of bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon, but strong midday sunlight can scorch the leaves. A well-lit position will encourage healthy growth and help the plant maintain its lush appearance.
Fertilizer
During spring and summer, feed the Pachira Aquatica once every two to four weeks with fertilizer for green houseplants. Additional feeding is usually not necessary during autumn and winter, as the plant's growth naturally slows down.
Temperature
This tropical houseplant feels most comfortable at temperatures between 18 and 27°C. Protect the Pachira Aquatica from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes and temperatures below 15°C. A moderate to high humidity will also help keep the leaves healthy and looking their best.
